Not so fond of the Badinerie. When my daughter was in gymnastics, another gymnast used that as her floor routine music - I got tired of hearing it so often.

Oh yeah, and number 5 is SO much fun (albeit challenging) to play by yourself on the piano (I wish I had a harpsichord! ).

I like to hum the orchestra parts while I play it.

ETA: Oh, and don't be jealous!!! The way Bach builds the tension with the harpsichord is masterfully done and for that reason ALONE is why number 5 rocks. Without it,...

The Brandenburgs!

I had a thread about Brandenburg 5 in the past month or so.

Something about how the most embarrassing thing in the world would be if you were the harpsichordist and during the recording you ALMOST got to the end and messed up.

Anyway, 5 ROCKS, but 2 is the best overall.

5 - but excluding the harpsichord part in the middle - it's like one of those really long guitar solos - the kind where it gets to the point of - just come on - get on with it already!

i don't actually know much about classical music apart from shit i played in the orchestra in HS but afaik bach is the most ownage composer so i can understand the fascination with him

Classical music, like rock, jazz, and R&B, all seemed to run out of new ideas at about the same time. Some, like myself, would like to extrapolate this as an extension of the international zeitgeist that brought the Reagans, Thatchers, et al to power at about the same time this happened. Regardless of the fact they are probably not related, just mere coincidences.

listened to corelli's concerto grossi op 6
then the holberg suite
and now i'm listening to all of the brandenburg concertos
