I want a pretty Pink Dell Insipron..... Was thinking of going through Best Buy and getting their 3 year warranty (if they still offer it). I got that on my last laptop in 2002 and it died 1 month before the warranty ended and I got a brand new one!

Ever since I got a laptop for my birthday in April, I've been using it way more than my PC. The only thing I dislike about it is that I tend to make typos much more easily than I do on my PC.

Something to keep in mind

You spill water on a desktop keyboard, you just replace the keyboard.

You spill water on a laptop keyboard, you may need to replace a lot more.

DHC, it probably all boils down to how important having a portable machine would be to you.

If you think you'd regret not having a machine that you can just pick up and take with you, or be able to use basically anywhere in your house - while watching TV, or relaxing in bed, for example - then go with a laptop.

If the portability factor isn't really important to you, though, go with the desktop, which is the better choice in every other respect, as Vicc outlined...

DHC your biggest mistake is trying to buy the computer from a brick and mortar shop with real salespeople.

surf online, lots of discount sites. you'll save $500 easily from the store value.

So this is what I've learned

-PCs should be cheaper than laptops
-If not, buy the laptop
-Only reason to buy a PC is if you are running a home zoo, or if you tend to throw your keyboard down a flight of stairs on a regular basis
-Future Shop is trying to royally screw idiots like me with these add-on packages

In a couple weeks all the big box stores (Best Buy, Futureshop) are going to have back to school sales.

I picked up a decent laptop last year for $600 Canadian pesos. If I wanted MS Office, it would've cost another $100, but I opted for for OpenOffice. Bring it home and turn it on. It's got Vista, it works and it's fast.

dhc, look at the dell site and hp, and gateway, etc. you can get just what you want on a computer and not a lot of add ons.

are these computers that future shop makes? look at other stores too

Need help

We are currently using an inherited home computer that I think was built in the late 70's. It is, for lack of a better term, a ticking time bomb

We went looking for computers today, and quite frankly I cannot see the point of spending even $1000 on a home computer (and the good ones seem to be $2,000) All we use our computer for is:

-Trolling the internet
-Saving pics/vids of baby

...and thats it. My husband doesn't even have a...
