When the puppy pees we clean it up immediately. I am squeamish about germs and dirt, not OCD crazy but uncomfortable if I suspect something is there. When we moved into this house, I just used cheap carpet cleaner solution and a half cup of bleach in each tankful. Luckily, the carpet is light gray, so it wouldn't really matter what the bleach did to it. That oxy stuff didn't work worth a beans. My bf just spilled a glass of red wine on the rug at a condo we were renting in Cape Cod last week. For 3 days I tried various cleaners so we wouldn't have to pay for the rug. None of them worked. Then someone suggested this and it worked, instantly.

Our carpet isn't stained, but there is a very faint smell of the old owners' pets. This isn't the stink that I smelled when I first saw the house and asked for OT's esteemed opinion about buying a stinky house. That smell is long gone and I wonder if maybe it was a carpet cleaning solution that the people used on the wool carpets - wet wool stinks, stinks stinks.
