If your in Paris I definitely recommend you to stay in the Latin Quarter, it has a lot of character with a variety of restaurants/bars/clubs and its pretty close to a lot things like Notre Dame, the Pantheon, Rue de St Georges and the Pompidou (which I also advise you to see if you like modern and contemporary art).
