Actually, last I checked (since I do a lot of trading/selling/buying with people in the US in terms of wrestling stuff), the Canadian dollar was worth about 98.6 cents American so...it's a bit less.

There's Canadian idol, and Canada's next top model, Why dont Canucks just produce their own franchise.

A friend tried to produce Survivor here for global, but it still proved a legal nightmare and too expensive to buy rights to the originator of the series.

No, we just know that if we create our own version of Survivor, it will be overshadowed by the US one, because of the production, editing, and the fact that Probst is about as good of a host as you can pretty much get for the series.

Isn't Todd a dual citizen? So while he's also an American, at least we have a Canadian in there now!

They'll never allow Canadians on Survivor because of insurance issues, period. Not that they COULDN'T do it, but it would be much more difficult to arrange, and likely much more costly to the producers, so totally not worth all the trouble. i am not a legal expert, but isn't their issues with people from other countries being able to enter into some of the contracts that people have to sign to agree to be on survivor? i had heard their where legal issues that would probably keep Canadians off? of course i am not from Canada so i have no true how much this is.

to keep survivor fresh and with new ideas - as far as casting goes - i dont see many other options apart from casting internationals?

I'm sure they mainly care about US Ratings, but global ratings would be somewhat important too. The better rated a show is in Australia for example, the more likely a bidding war for the rights will erupt.

I think the next step forward in survivor - after splitting tribes by gender, age, race - would be by countires. Tribe of americans, canadians, australians, english? or at least 2 or 3 from each country. this would also attract more viewers globally..

Top rated in millions
US: with 300 million people

Dancing w stars: 21.4 mil
Dancing w stars (results): 18.9
Survivor China: 14.4 approx 5% of population watching
Amazing race 12: 13.7 (glad to see this is doing well!)

In Canada population: 33 million

I'm not sure if this topic has ever come up before but I was curious why to apply to survivor you must be an American citizen and must Reside in the US. I feel kinda ripped off that as a Canadian I don't even get the chance to apply. I spent a lot of my youth living next to Lake Erie and fishing and swimming almost every day.
