Rice and boiled hamburger mixed together and yogurt would be good for him to eat.
Could be IBD, colitis or worms. I'd get him to the vet but I wouldn't be freaking out quite yet unless he's puking blood also and acting sick.
I hope he's better soon.

The rule for taking your pet to the vet is to wait 24 hours to see if the problem clears up. If not, to the vet you go.

I think the PetSmart website will be helpful in determining whether your PetSmart has vet services or not.

also try giving him a bit of plain yogurt. It helps with loose stools. But truly, get to the vet IMMEDIATELY tomorrow.

We do have a PetSmart, I never knew about the on-call vet. Maybe I'll go over there in the morning.

Even if your vet doesn't see patients on the weekend, he or she likely has a group of other vets who share weekend call? Or do you have a PetSmart in your area? They're open on weekends and have a vet on call, I think.

If yucky poopy = diarrhea, Immodium can be given to dogs (at least our vet gave us permission to when we called and asked) for short term relief.

look around your house for little orangish dried rice looking things. that's dead tapeworm segments which can cause the straining and the loose stools. wet food really isn't recommended for dogs. until you're certain what is causing it, i'd keep pooch off it. does your vet have a daytime on call person? at least call them and leave a message requesting a call back. very good advice on the rice and hydration. i am not sure about the pepto though, i'd wait and ask about that...
