Another reason: old people aren't as willing to play a very vicious game. As people get older, they place a higher value on morals and ethnics, they become more concerned about their reputation and legacy, so they become less willing to be evil on national television.

If you look at the old players, they generally try to play a nicer game than young people do. Both older winners (Tina and Tom) won the game without being a villain.

1. Few old people have been cast in every season.

2. Most old people can't take the physical challenges of staying on an island; many old players were out of the game because of injuries or exhaustion.

3. Old people are regarded as physical liabilities for their tribes before the final merge.

4. Old people can't win individual immunity to save themselves after the final merge.

I'm going to go further and say older people (particularly women) aren't cast as much because chances are they won't apply. I am over 40 and even though I love the show and think I probably could tough out the survival aspect, I don't see the point in going all that way just to be the first boot of the season because some douchebag alliance of 20somethings decide I'm a physical liability (which compared to them, I am).

I think you answered your own question: "old" people don't win becuase "old" people aren't casts as much. I'm sure if someone did a statistical analysis of the amount of 20 year-ols, 30 year-olds and 40+ year-olds, they would find that 2 "old" winners correlates to the amount of "old people that have ever been on the show.

Tina did it with Coby (bye Amber). Cirie did it with Aras (over Danielle) but couldn't do with with Amanda because Parvati was her match as a social player.

Because this is Survivor and not a game of bingo. How many 40 year olds compete in the major leagues? Even in golf, winners over 40 are a minority. In chess, world champions are at their best in their late 20s to mid 30s.

For the past few seasons everybody has been bitching about the lack of female winners, but in the history of Survivor there have only been two winners over the age of 40 (Tina and Tom, and they were just barely over 40). Obviously there are fewer older people than younger people cast each season, but still, what's up with that?
