I think that's the first time I've ever heard anybody talking about Nikki winning, even as a joke. I agree, it would have ended the show. Speculating about what might have happened if Jasmine had won (which was far more likely than Nikki, given the weak competition) might be fun.

Obviously there are many useful comparisons to be made between between Syesha and Nikki. However, during the first season of Idol everybody was more or less winging it with the exception of Simon and Nigel, who had already been through it all before on Popstars. Not rigged. Once she made it past the first few rounds, you can totally see how she ended up where she has. Except for the Carly boot. But Syesha was more accessible, screaming and drama nonwithstanding.

I agree with Dagny1331. My post talked mostly about demographics & other contestants screwing up because that's what the contest largely came down to. Demographics, consistency and decent singing talent took Syesha to the top 6, her improvement has carried her to the top 3. I was just diagreeing with eastersundayhate's contention that the contest had to be rigged for her to get so far.

A David vs David finale would be epic like Carrie/Bo and Ruben/Clay (even though it was obvious Ruben & Carrie would win from their audition) just because it's unpredictable. Not neccessarily because they are OMG SO UBER TALENTED.

Syesha's standing has improved over the last few weeks at a point where some of the other frontrunners have fizzled. I don't know if she has improved that much or if she is now just better by comparison.

And I definitely get that she has been the only African American contestant in the top 9 and that has helped in getting votes from AA, which as 8track said probably falls under the radar of Internet based popularity measures. But, most of the past African American...

eastersundayhate makes a good case. There wasn't much buzz for or discussion of Syesha until top 6 night, when she blew many people away. Before that she seemed like just another marginal contestant hanging on by a thread. As an admitted Syesha fan on Sucks, I can testify that I was feeling VERY lonely and outnumbered till that night!
