Agreed. The S3 wildcard was absolute insanity. I bet they got so many complaints that they were pretty much forced to change the semifinal format.

Why do we even need semifinals anyway? Couldn't they just cut the crap and whittle the singers down to 12 in the chair round?

The current semifinal format is much better. Good singers were getting lost too easily before, and bad ones got thru on sob stories that would now result in them being dumped around the second week of the semis (i.e. Jim Verraros). Also, since the judges and/or Nigel were so flaky about their wildcard choices, bad singers made it into the finals because of one fluke decent performance at the right time (i.e. Jon Peter Lewis). And rigging the contest to even out the male/female ratio was...

Overall, I like the current system better. The groups were NEVER fair or even, and talented people missed out by being in a group that was overpacked with talent, while extremely mediocre people made it in because there wasn't much competition in their group. And I don't trust the judges to even pick the best of the rest to COMPETE on the wildcard show...

The one change I'd like to see happen would be to have the top 24 sing for three weeks with voting but no...

With the old semi finalists format there used to be a wildcard round.

They had 32 people instead of 24, there were groups of 8 and the semis weren't divided by gender. One group of 8 would perform each week, 2 people from each group would be voted into the finals. Then they'd have a wildcard group at the end where people who didn't make it got to perform again and they had another chance to make the finals. The...

Simon is known for his bluntness and (partial) honesty, but even he misses things sometimes. We'd all like to be Simon once in a while, at least when he's judging the show and cashing his paychecks. You'll have to work on the paycheck issue while you're off the thread, but here's your chance at the first part. I will start things off:
