It could be a journey arc, still, though, right? The fan starts out enthusiastic but clueless, helpless, can't start a fire, can't build a shelter, etc. They learn through bad strategy, bad votes, startling twists, micronesion grandfathers, Probst tribal council comments, and campfire wisdom from the oldtimers, until at last they are ready to take their place besides the favorites at the final tribal council.

Agree Trixie. If a fan was going to win I would think they would be editing them as the ultimate fan who really knows how to play the game. The only fan with that type of edit so far is Tracy. So unless she has some miracle and finds a new alliance, I don't think a fan will be the winner.

Point to a winner we've had that didn't have at least some semblance of a story pre-merge?

not to mention, I would LOVE to believe that the editors would think to themselves for a FAN to win over a FAVE, let's show the audience that this fan is kicking it.

I mean really if a fan were to win over a favorite - you got a HUGE storyline potential to show a fan coming in and really pushing forward Alexis's first episode statement that they got...

I'm inclined to believe that we have been shown the winning alliance and it's Cerie, Amanda and Parvati. In total agreement about the fans chance. I can buy into Alexis being the last fan standing, but not much else.

AND

reminds me too much of Amber's massive edit shift from "non-entity" to "gun moll"

Pre-merge, all winners have had an alliance mentioned on the show (not just on insider clips), and so far, the editors have ommitted all of that from Alexis' storyline.

Just based on editing, if a fan is going to win, the editors are really giving us the shaft because we've got the excellent gameplay and story going on with the FAVES and it just seems like the Fans are just standing around watching and waiting. They're like little confused sheep waiting out in the pasture for their shepard to inevitably come and lead them to their slaugher house

See, I think the complete opposite, I don't think a fan is gonna win at all. They've been shown to be either:

A) Completely worthless (Chet, Kathy)

B) Having no affect whatsoever on their tribe or game (Erik, Alexis, Natalie)

C) Complete idiots (Jason)

The only one that has a shot is Tracy but she threw that chance away when she voted Chet out last week. A Fave is gonna take this one, and...

Chet is saying in his post-boot interviews that he knew for sure that Ozzy had the idol, because he snooped around and saw him with it. He told Jason, obviously, but didn't think Jason believed him. He says he also told Tracy, which of course we didn't see, but not Erik.

So arc-wise, dang, they were determined not to show us any initiative from Chet. But...
