The women who checked me out at the store today asked me if I wanted my soda left out. I thought right then that she must not have grown up around here.

According to the map, Nevada is mostly a soda state.

The places I've lived -- Detroit, Cleveland, St. Louis, Minneapolis -- it's always been pop.

It's called soda in St. Louis. They do call it pop in the other places you mention, though.

(It's still called soda, yw)

I used to love Hi-C in a juicebox. Slimer was my favorite. I wonder if they even make that kind anymore.

Soda with ice cream in it is called a Coke Float or just Ice Cream Soda if you are not using Coca Cola.

East Coasters seem to be the 'soda' people; Southerners are the 'coke' people.

huh. I usually call it by name, too. Coke, Pepsi, Fresca, whatever. Unless it's Minute Maid, then I just call it "orange." Or that Lipton tea. I call it iced tea. A bunch of people around here call it "Brisk" which cracks me up. It's "Brisk Iced Tea," with BRISK being the adjective to describle the ICED TEA. Heh.

We had an intern at the paper who was from one of the flyover states, and a reporter from the sports desk had gotten her a Diet Coke. So she shouts enthusiastically across the newsroom, "Let me know when you need a free pop sometime!"

The next day, she arrived to find her desk filled with cans of Diet Coke.
