Survivor will most likely stand the test of time. I wouldnt even be surprised if there is a renewed interest in the show 30 years after its cancelled...

American Idol however most likely will not withstand the test of time.. No one of the future generation is gonna wanna watch our generations shitty music being preformed..(Not that our music is shitty, but to our children it will be)

As long as it gets in the 10-12 million viewer range next season, it will be renewed for seasons 19 and 20.

After season 20 they will look at the ratings and make a decision whether or not to continue the show.

The thing about AI is that its out to save the world of music. Survivor lives in it's own world and the winner of Survivor doesn't go out and try to prove themselves like the winners of AI does. AI risks everything with it's winner because they carry their name out beyond the TV screen. Survivor is Survivor, it's not going to be integrated into american lifestyle.

I do think Survivor can outlast AI and DWTS. Survivor is a spectacular show whereas AI and DWTS are quite plainly shit.

Who cares. AI & DWTS are just passing fads on the radar of reality tv. It may sound hokey, but Survivor will still stand the test of time when it's all said and done, over those two.

I'd take Survivor getting less viewers with it's credibility still completely intact after sixteen seasons, then watching AI and DWTS. Even though they may get better ratings, they both are still a crock of shit.

True, but Ai and DWTS are as repetitive as you get and they get great ratings,even in this slump. Part of it has to do with the evolution of the media, but part of it also has to do with the dumb casual fans.

People, get the "These ratings are low" thinking out of your head. This show is in it's sixteenth season about to start it's seventeenth and it's still getting 12+ million viewers. Shows nowadays would KILL for those ratings.

Survivor is fine.

CBS won the 8 o'clock hour as "Survivor" (4.0/12, 12.5 million viewers overall)

It only got about 3 million less than Grey's Anatomy. I think that's pretty impressive
