I read that, too, MAS. It was rumored that the son of the dictator Nicolae Ceausescu used to molest her and this was supposed to be one of the biggest reasons she run from Romania. He and his father got obsessed with the gymnast and they even fired Bela Karolyi for not having Romanian blood.
Nadia passed the border illegally risking to be shot in any moment.
Although she was successful, she had too face a lot of problems.
I got a tremendous respect for her and I regret she was...

At the 1976 Olympics, Nadia used the opening theme music from "The Young and the Restless" as accompaniment during her programs (the soap still uses that music today). She made it so popular that it was renamed "Nadia's Theme."

I did read somewhere - a book, a magazine, can't remember which - that said her life after winning wasn't an easy one. She was, after all, born in a country where the athletes were treated like tools to promote and further the country's glory in the name of the fatherland. She was smuggled into the USA and her "boyfriend" at that time turned out to be some creep who held her captive. Or something.

It's not a pleasant life of rosy sponsorships by all means...

I wanted to be Nadia when I was little. She seemed like she was about to cry. Poor kid.
All of the Romanian gymnasts in history have looked like that. If all you did, day after day after day since you were 5 years old, was spend all day in the gym being screamed at by coaches like Bela Karolyi, I guess you would be like that, too

I saw just the recap clip on the site. Nadia looked like an old puppy being put down. That was disgraceful. Props for trying to do something for charity but I can't think of her in the same way that I thought of her before the show, which is a shame.
