Did all that cum youve swilled rot your brain?? You can make a ton of money shorting a down market. But you probably dont have enough money to qualify to invest in hedge funds.

Well....get a 401k going anyway.
It's gonna suck for a while but at least the money will start accumulating.

Unfortunately, 401k's are losing their value just like every other investment.

I just signed up for my 401(k) YAY, but with this market I'm pretty sure I'll be fucked. I chose the profile with intermediate to high risk (but I'll be saving for 40 years) so we'll see.

Though it has lasted a couple months longer than I thought, I think we are nearing the end of this recession. The next week or two will be pretty volatile, and will continue to drift negative until the Dow reaches the mid 10000 (another negative 6-8%). We'll hopefully have the begininnings of a sustainable recovery after that. Tomorrow will probably be heavy trading and volatile, since the foreign markets are doing pretty badly, though I actually think Friday's close will be...

I recall an article I read online last week about the disconnect between the stock market and the economy.

Anytime there is such an article, it should have been a very clear SELL signal.
